Abstract
The innovative narrative strategy in Chekhov's prose fiction is examined from the point of view of contemporary narratology; the leading role of the communicative 'event of narration', a special status of referencial (plot) eventfulness, incompleteness of the narrative intrigue and configuration of microepisodes are analysed, in particular.
