Abstract
The author shows that the main factor, which influenced Soviet-Chinese relations in 1937-1941, was a war waged by Japan against China. Taking the decision to render a broadscale military-technical, diplomatic, moral and political support to the Republic of China, the Soviet leadership took into account that the expansion of Japanese aggression in China would lead to further change in the regional balance of power and create a real threat to the security of the Soviet Union.
