Abstract
Inter-Korean economic relations were established at the end of the 1980s. The author analyzes prerequisites, conditions, dynamics and features of this process in the late 20th century. In order to reach a new level of cooperation, North Korea and South Korea were to go through the period of 1990s - radical change in the geopolitical situation in the world, the new balance of power in the region, the first nuclear crisis, feeling out the ground for improving economic ties. The achieved results were the prelude to a substantial expansion of bilateral economic relations in the early 21st century.
