Abstract

The present article raised the question of possibility of the philosophy of sense. With this objective in view, the principles of opposition of the terms “meaning” and “sense” are being determined and special features of analytical and hermeneutical approaches to the issue of sense are being formed as well as opposition of sense to meaning and their mutual complementarity are being noted. The author shows special features of comprehending this difference in the Russian language as opposed to the European languages and claims that the genitive case of the expression “philosophy of sense” is incorrect since sense is neither an object of special knowledge nor special subject area available for interdisciplinary research. Sense is rather the presumption of the understanding of the world ensured by its entirety, determination of which carries obvious metaphysical character. Hence the expression “metaphysics of sense” shall be recognized as appropriate in this context since it preserves its problematic character and allows philosopher to comprehend the source of the problem and understand the principles which underline the two different approaches to its solution.
